A Bayside block with the roots of a heritage-listed fig tree has sold under the hammer for $1.37m over the weekend.

The two-bedroom, one-bathroom home, which sits on the block at 11 Glenora Street, Wynnum, doesn’t meet Queensland’s minimum housing requirement standards and will need to be knocked down.

The auction had five registered bidders participate, with 24 groups inspecting the property throughout the campaign.

Developers were predominantly interested in the property.

Ms McEwan said the heritage-listed fig tree’s roots, which come into the home’s backyard, deterred two of the registered bidders.

“There was a bit of apprehension because of the fig tree,” Ms McEwan said.

“It’s one of the most famous trees in Brisbane.

“It was floated down the Brisbane River a long time ago by a doctor for the person who lived in the home next door.

“I was worried about the bidding. It took a little while, but we sold it to a local who lived three to four streets today, and they understood the value of the location. “

Property agent Gaby McEwan said the house was a knockdown job and is situated on two blocks of land, eight metres wide.

“The campaign went really well for us; we had some offers before the auction, which we exceeded at today’s auction,” she said.

“When you have two lots of eight metres each, it limits the build you can do.

Property owner Brad is a personal trainer and has been doing sessions at 11 Glenora Street, Wynnum with clients since Covid.

“I think the price we got today was bang on what we thought it would get; without the fig tree, it came at $1.39m, so it was pretty close.”

The property is located across the park, where a DA is in place for a restaurant near the boat ramp.

The home is also a short stroll from the locally loved Adelita Wine Bar and Little Cedar Shop.
