Vote for local heroes - Northern Beaches Advocate

Public voting is now open for the finalists of Warringah Mall’s Local Heroes program.

Across Australia and New Zealand, Westfield selects three local community heroes as finalists for a public vote. The winner receives a $20k grant for the group or organisation they represent, with the other finalists each receiving a $5k grant for their group or organisation.

Westfield Local Heroes is a recognition and awards based program that acknowledges individuals and their organisations in Australia and New Zealand who have a positive impact on their local community. 2022 marks the programs fifth consecutive year, with 126 grants to be awarded, totalling $1.26m.

The finalists represent community role models who create positive benefits for others across a broad range of sectors, including emergency services, registered community groups, sporting clubs, not-for-profit, schools, authorities, and the local environment.

On the Northern Beaches, the three finalists for Warringah Mall have been announced and are now open for a public vote:

Adele Heasman has been a pillar of support for the most vulnerable people on the Northern Beaches for over 20 years. As the volunteer President of Community Northern Beaches, she ensures thousands of local people have access to front-line support for challenges including homelessness, domestic violence, or settling in a new country as a refugee.

Christine Robbins, One Meal – Northern Beaches Coop

Christine Robbins has gone above and beyond to keep locals fed during COVID. The friendly Hot Meals Coordinator at One Meal Northern Beaches Co-op leads a team of 50 volunteers who cook 200 delicious meals weekly for delivery directly to vulnerable people in our community. In addition, there are more pre-cooked meals for people to warm up at home.

Tracey Hare-Boyd, Surf Life Saving Sydney Northern Beaches

Tracey Hare-Boyd devotes more than 40 volunteer hours a week to keep people safe in the water and leading programs for children with special needs. As the elected Branch President of Surf Life Saving Sydney Northern Beaches, she leads the 21 clubs from Manly to Palm Beach. She thrives on volunteerism, camaraderie and the privilege of saving a life.

Westfield Warringah Mall Centre Manager Andrew Davidson has encouraged the Northern Beaches community to get involved and vote for the 2022 community hero.

“Through the Westfield Local Heroes program, we continue to recognise and acknowledge people who have made a lasting impact on the future of our local community. It’s with great pleasure that we announce our three 2022 finalists and encourage our community to vote and help us discover our 2022 hero,” said Mr Davidson.

Voting for Westfield Local Heroes closes on Monday, 22 August. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, 13 September. To cast your vote, head to the Westfield Local Hero website for Warringah Mall.
