Queensland records zero new local coronavirus cases | news.com.au — Australia's leading news site - NEWS.com.au

Queensland has recorded zero new local coronavirus cases – but despite the joyful news, the Premier had a stern warning for the public.

Queensland recorded zero new local coronavirus cases on Sunday, leading the state’s top doctor to declare there is no spread in the community.

The state’s chief health officer Jeanette Young said on Sunday the lack of community cases was “excellent news”.

“Because of that enormous amount of testing, nearly 100,000 tests have been done related to this cluster, I can be confident we don‘t have community seeding,” she said.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said people who hadn’t gotten vaccinated yet should do so to avoid being “hunted down” by the virus.

“The key is vaccines, what we know about this virus is it will hunt down those people who are unvaccinated,” the Premier said.

“So that is the key: to please go and get vaccinated.”

More to come.
