Donation set to help local families in need - Cowra Guardian

While COVID may have temporarily halted their fundraising lunches for the Cowra Information and Neighbourhood Centre (CINC), it hasn't stopped the team at the Imperial Hotel from giving the service a generous donation.

Owner of the Imperial Hotel, Richard Morgan, handed over a cheque for $1000 to CINC on Tuesday afternoon, with the funds going towards helping local families in need.

"With the lockdown and everything, we haven't been able to do it [the lunch fundraiser] so we just said we will donate $1000," Mr Morgan said.

"We thought, we can't make up for it but we will give where we can, we're just going to stick with it and give back to the community."

With Cowra's stay-at-home orders lifted, Mr Morgan said the next fundraising lunch will be held on October 17.

"We're in a position [to do it], it's only a day a month and it's not a huge amount of money it costs us," he said.

"We've had staff volunteer and we're happy to give our own time up.

"We don't want to imagine kids who have to go to school without a pair of shoes without holes in them or all their friends are going on school excursions and they're not able to go because they can't afford it."

CINC CEO Fran Stead said the service was grateful to the Imperial Hotel for their efforts.

"We were absolutely blown away when we were approached to see if we wanted to be part of this," she said.

"It goes with our whole vision of 'Locals Supporting Locals'."

Ms Stead said the funding goes towards the 'little things' that families may need.

"It's amazing, we've already even had to use some of that funding during COVID," she said.

"We did buy some groceries for two families, we bought socks and undies for other families.

"It's just all of those little things that aren't not covered in any funding.

"Wherever we can alleviate that little bit of stress... take pressure off families, it makes our job in that family support area easy.

"It's heartbreaking when you think kids are suffering... no one should feel that they don't belong or that they aren't as worthy as their little mate."
