Victoria records 183 local cases, exposure sites balloon - Sky News Australia

Victoria recorded 183 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases as the list of exposure sites pass 1,000.

Victoria recorded 183 COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, with at least 80 mystery infections.

Of the 183 new infections, 101 are linked to known cases and outbreaks while the others are under investigation.

The latest numbers mark a drop in numbers from Friday's 208 new infections, and Saturday's 190 new cases.

There are currently more than 1,000 exposure sites listed on the Department of Health alert page, including an early childhood centre, the Australian Catholic University and a Chemist Warehouse.

Almost 60 per cent of Victorians have received their first dose of the vaccine as of Friday, and 37.2 per cent fully vaccinated, according to Federal Health Department figures.

The state administered 29,950 doses of the vaccine yesterday, bringing the total number administered to 2,583,499.

Premier Daniel Andrew foreshadowed a bleak future for unvaccinated residents as he warned the case numbers would continue to go up, it's just a matter of "how much".

"By the time we get to 70 and 80 per cent, everybody who wants to be vaccinated, I think, will have been given an opportunity to do so," he said, indicating the prospect of vaccine passports.

"So, I think if you’re not vaccinated and you could be, then the chances of you booking a ticket at a sporting event, going to a pub, going to all manner of different places will be very, very limited.

"At this stage the greatest incentive is freedom. If you're vaccinated you are going to be able to participate in the economy.

"What will become, I think, a bigger part of our response is a lockout of many, many venues for those who are not vaccinated. Now that might seem a bit harsh but I've said this before and I'll make the point again that I'm not going to lock the whole state down to protect people who won't protect themselves."

Adblock test (Why?)
