Queensland records four local COVID cases including infectious truck driver, aviation worker - 7NEWS

Queensland has recorded four local COVID-19 cases, raising concerns about this weekend’s NRL Grand Final and a possible lockdown.

The cases include a fully vaccinated man in his 30s who works in the aviation industry at a flight simulation centre, who tested positive on Monday after three days in the community. His wife has also tested positive for the virus.

Queensland Health said he has no recent history of overseas or interstate travel and the source of the infection is being investigated.

The third case is a truck driver who resides in shared accommodation at Adalong Guesthouse in South Brisbane.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said he has been infectious in the community for about a week.

“Police are speaking to this truck driver to get some more information from him,” she told reporters, adding that health authorities were “more concerned about” his infection.

The fourth case, which authorities are “not as concerned about”, had completed mandatory quarantine before testing positive for the virus.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath and Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young are expected to provide further details at a separate press conference on Tuesday.

New restrictions

The premier announced “immediate changes” would be made to COVID-19 restrictions in two LGAs.

Residents in Brisbane and Moreton Bay must wear a mask whenever they leave home and wear them indoors and when social distancing isn’t possible in outdoor settings.

Individuals must also carry a mask on them at all times.

Anyone who has been in the two LGAs since September 19 also cannot visit aged care, hospitals, disability accommodation or detention centres.

“There’s no need to panic because Queenslanders have been doing the right thing especially in the south east,” the premier said.

A public health alert was issued on Monday for exposure sites including a McDonald’s in Albany Creek, a childcare centre in Eatons Hill and stores in Rocklea and Aspley - all linked to the aviation worker.

Queensland has given 64.1 per cent of eligible residents at least one dose of a vaccine, with 45.13 per cent fully vaccinated.
