New chapter for local columnist - nbnnews.com.au

The Port Stephens Examiner has parted ways with a much-loved local columnist… months after news it was potentially facing closure as its owner grapples with rising costs.

John ‘Stinker’ Clarke is thought to have had the longest-running fishing column in Australia… but he’s now looking to a new chapter.

FULL STATEMENT from a spokesperson at The Port Stephens Examiner:

“There’s nothing fishy going on here.

From time to time the Port Stephens Examiner, like NBN News and other media outlets, makes content decisions, including for budgetary reasons, and recruits new journalists, which is what we’re currently doing so that our newspaper continues keeping the community informed, connected and strong.

We’re grateful to have been able to bring John ‘Stinker’ Clarke’s fishing tips to our loyal audiences for many years and wish him nothing but tight lines on the beautiful waterways of Port Stephens.”
