Perth’s best burgers: Local Bird, Betty’s Burgers, Two Stacks, Compton Burgers, Bad Love Burger Co. - PerthNow

As a long-time member of the Perth Burger Hunters Facebook group, I’ve got the pedigree and the passion to dish up some juicily honest opinions on Perth’s favourite burger joints.

In the name of research I recently visited five local favourites — let’s see how they stack up.

Cheezy-E with a Cheese Bath

Compton Burgers

Compton Burgers down Northbridge’s Stirling Street is a star-studded contender with endorsement from music big shots like Coolio and Jack Harlow. I got a single patty Cheezy-E ($13) to dunk in their famous Cheese Bath ($7), which enveloped the burger in a plastic-y yellow blanket. However, the burg is better as a solo act. I sing a song of praise about its grilled onions which are balanced perfectly with the patty’s juices. 8/10.

Spicy Bird

Local Bird

There’s a lot of talk about chicken champions Local Bird, in Tuart Hill. The Spicy Bird ($17.50) was filled with trendy periwinkle slaw, which was addictive and milky without being sickly creamy. The burger was more like a phoenix — a fiery thing, beastly in size, and absolutely captivating on camera. It burst through the feeble bun that wrinkled and thinned as the Nashville sauce sunk through. 9/10.

Noosa Classic Surf

Betty’s Burgers

Betty’s Burgers is a new-ish Aussie burger joint that has landed in Perth, just by the cactus in Forrest Chase. I ordered their special Noosa Classic Surf ($17.50) because of the promise of prawns. The beef was tough like a wet suit, but overall it was a passable experience. 6/10

Classic

Bad Love Burger Co.

Bad Love Burger Co.’s Classic ($16.50) knows how to attract a crowd to its West Leederville home, with its guarantee of double trouble (two smashed patties) and crispy beef lattice. 9/10

Classic Cheese Smash

Two Stacks

Two Stacks is hidden in the labyrinth of The Sunshine Harvester Works food hall in Fremantle. The Classic Cheese Smash ($16.50) is another crispy delight featuring an egg-washed bun and a tasty add-on of seasoned chips ($4.50). I would swap the house made “stacks sauce” with an off-the-shelf barbecue in future — it was a tongue clinging type of creamy, that got tiresome after three bites. 7/10
