Rana Daher has been sworn in as a magistrate of the Local Court of NSW. Daher was appointed to magistrate earlier in the year, as reported by The Mandarin.
Some have taken to social media to mark the occasion, naming it is a win for the diversity of the judicial system.
The Muslim Legal Network NSW took to Facebook to congratulate Daher, calling it important for representation.
“It is crucial for the community to see the bench as a representation of the Australian community, as this fosters trust in the legal profession and facilitates a more equitable administration of justice.
“Ms Daher’s cultural and religious diversity, as well as her experience in the Children’s Court as a Registrar will be invaluable to her new role as a Magistrate in the Local Court,” the post reads.
NSW member for Lakemba Jihad Dib tweeted his support, calling her a role model.
This is wonderful. If you can see it, you can be it! Breaking ceilings and role modelling for young people of all backgrounds who were told they couldn’t make it. Congrats Magistrate Daher, wish you all the very best; this appointment is inspiring beyond what you can imagine. https://t.co/7Mjz8aZ4Ee
