The annual conference provides opportunities to connect, inform and inspire women in local government. This year’s theme is Emerging Creatively, and the conference will highlight the ideas of exploring new opportunities, taking risks, facing challenges and supporting women’s leadership.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keeffe said she was extremely pleased to see the ALGWA Vic 2022 Conference coming to Greater Shepparton for the first time.
“We are very lucky to be hosting the ALGWA Vic 2022 State Conference this year. I am looking forward to welcoming many local government representatives to the region for two days of knowledge, inspiration and networking,” she said.
“ALGWA Vic is a fantastic resource, playing a vital role in supporting and representing women in local government. They have a range of wonderful programs including ALGWA Vic’s national award-winning mentoring program which facilitates professional development and networking for emerging leaders.”
The conference begins on Sunday evening with sunset drinks at the Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) where guests will have the opportunity to network amongst leaders in local government and beyond.
Guests will then hear from a range of informative and inspiring speakers across various fields during the conference. These include:
- Professor Catherine Bennett, Chair Epidemiology Deakin University
- Dr Tasneem Chopra OAM, broadcaster and cross cultural consultant
- Nartarsha Bamblett, outgoing member of the First People’s Assembly, North East Region
- Dr Niki Vincent, Public Sector Gender Equality Commissioner
- Padmini Sebastian OAM Director Engagement and Partnerships, University of Melbourne
- Laura Majewski, Senior Investigator Local Government Inspectorate, Jane Gillard, Communications Advisor and Michael Stefanovic, Chief Local Government Inspector
The conference will conclude with a gala dinner on Monday night at Riverlinks Eastbank where Dr Tasneem Chopra OAM will deliver a keynote address.
“We are looking forward to hosting the 2022 conference next month and are excited to welcome a range of visitors to the region,” Cr O’Keeffe said.
“This is one of many fantastic events coming to Greater Shepparton this year as we transition through our COVID-19 recovery. We have no doubt the conference will bring many positive returns for our region and the attending visitors.”
