WA COVID update: New mystery case among 13 new local COVID infections - 7NEWS

Health authorities are working to find the source of a mystery COVID case in WA’s south west, after 13 new infections were recorded overnight.

WA Health on Monday announced 13 new cases had been recorded to 8pm on Sunday, 10 of which are linked to the growing Coolbellup cluster.

One other infection is a household contact from the Safety Bay cluster and another case attended Willagee IGA, which was previously announced as an exposure site.

The 13th case relates to the Greater Bunbury region in the south west and contact tracers are scrambling to identify where the mystery infection contracted the virus.

It is believed they were infectious in the community.

All cases are now in quarantine.

Call for more testing

A childcare centre in Perth’s south east is the latest location on high alert, with health authorities urging anyone who attended Mercy Day Care Centre on Tuesday from 7.30am-7.45am and Friday from 7.45am-8am to get tested immediately and isolate until they receive a negative result.

More exposure sites will be updated here as they are confirmed by contact tracers.

It comes after WA on Sunday reported 24 new cases, as Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson pleaded with West Australians to continue to get tested.

“I think it’s clear that we are not going to eliminate Omicron,” she said on Sunday.

“It’s now about how we suppress and manage Omicron.”

Only 4990 people were swabbed at testing clinics on Sunday.

“There is Omicron in our community, this is serious and high levels of testing and quarantine is our best chance to help minimise the spread and to manage this outbreak,” Ms Sanderson said.

WA Health says anyone in the Perth, Peel and South West regions experiencing COVID symptoms should “ get tested immediately and isolate until they receive a negative result”.
