Four local groups receive Federal volunteer funding - The Young Witness

Four local groups have received a much needed boost with the Federal Government announcing funding for its volunteers to allow them to continue to service the community. Young Meals on Wheels, Young PCYC, the Wombat Equestrian Group and Murringo Archive Chronicle Keepers have welcomed the announcement from Member for Riverina Michael McCormack. Wombat Equestrian Group spokeswoman Kate Hinds welcomed the grant, which will be used for a public address system, air-conditioning and a fridge/freezer. "We are just a little group and this will make all the difference," Miss Hinds said. Young Meals on Wheels will receive $3,845, Young PCYC will receive $3,100, the Wombat Equestrian Group will $5,000 and the Murringo Archive Chronicle Keepers will receive $4,949. Mr McCormack said 41 organisations in the Riverina and Central West would share in a total of $131,306. "There are many thousands of volunteers in the Riverina and Central West who improve our community every day by turning up and helping out," Mr McCormack said. "These volunteer groups deserve as much support as they can get and I am pleased to have delivered this good news about the grants to them just as we have marked International Day of the Volunteer. "I thank the grant recipients, indeed all volunteer groups, for the wonderful work they do for the community." The Riverina Electorate grants were nominated by Mr McCormack in consultation with a community consultative committee.
