‘Unbelievable’: Zero local cases of COVID but Qld slips to last for vaccine jabs - Brisbane Times

“Eventually, and it possibly won’t be long but we will see the Delta variant come in and it won’t be able to be controlled,” she said.

“The only control will be the number of people who are vaccinated.”

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath and Dr Young will travel to central Queensland, including Mackay (61 per cent first dose) and Rockhampton (59 per cent) on Wednesday to urge those communities to increase their vaccination rates.

In Brisbane, almost 75 per cent of people had received their first dose, but Ms Palaszczuk said she wanted to see a big increase in vaccination rates in Ipswich (64 per cent), Logan (60 per cent), Beaudesert and the Sunshine Coast (70 per cent).

“Because we’ve had some outbreaks in Brisbane, you’ve actually seen people coming forward to get their vaccination,” she said.

“It’s quite interesting that those rates are higher in those areas and we have been proactively targeting areas that are lower to bring them up.”

Ms D’Ath said stage two restrictions, including mask-wearing gathering limits and restrictions on visitors to hospitals, may be reviewed sooner than next week given low case numbers, on advice from Dr Young.
