Local 12-15 year olds are eligible for the vaccine next Monday - The Young Witness

Starting from Monday September 13 local children aged between 12 and 15 will be the latest cohort to become eligible for vaccination.

Young Vaccination Hub will be conducting an Adolescent Vaccination Clinic by appointment on September 23 for ages 12-19 years with the help of a Childhood Immunization Nurse and Midwife.

"Vaccine allocation for Young Vaccine Hub is going up to 1200 doses per week from next week and we aim get it out to peoples arms as quickly as possible," Dr Wick said.

"From next week everyone in our region who is eligible should be able to get a Pfizer appointment within a week.

"Now, it is more important than ever that all locals who are eligible get vaccinated."

Children aged 12-15 will be administered the Pfizer vaccine which was recently approved for use on the age group.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced two weeks ago that the younger age group would become eligible just after 16 to 39 year olds were able to have their turn getting vaccinated.

Dr Wick believes with the COVID-19 virus creeping ever closer towards the region it is only a matter of time before the local area starts to see cases.

"Locals need to get vaccinated now," he said.

The Government has secured an extra 4 million doses of Pfizer from the United Kingdom with one million already touched down in the country and the remaining three million to arrive over the coming weeks.

Supplies of Astra Zeneca remain freely available and the Government has said that Moderna, is expected to arrive from later this month.

Anyone who would like to make an appointment can do so by calling 63821599 or online at hotdoc - Young Respiratory Clinic.
