Four new local COVID-19 cases as Melbourne prepares for restrictions to ease - The Age

Victoria has recorded four new locally-acquired COVID-19 cases as Melbourne prepares for restrictions to ease.

The Department of Health said all four new local cases were from the same household and “investigations into acquisition source are underway”.

There were no new cases in hotel quarantine and there are now 78 active cases in the state.

The state administered 20,784 doses of coronavirus vaccine on Wednesday taking the total number of state-administered doses to 725,049.

The figures come after health authorities added 22 new exposure windows at Arcare Maidstone aged care and four new locations in Melbourne’s north late on Wednesday.

Arcare Maidstone’s new listings, all tier 1, are linked to the facility’s Magnolia Unit and the communal facilities area all day and night from May 27 to June 5 and again on May 26 from 7am to 11.59pm.

The BP in Thomastown was added as a tier 2 exposure site from 6pm to 6.30pm on June 7, as was Bunnings Thomastown from 6pm to 6.30pm on June 8.

Authorities are also still working to trace the movements of a Victorian couple who drove to Queensland earlier this month before testing positive on the Sunshine Coast.

The Queensland government announced on Thursday morning that the husband of a Melbourne woman who tested positive the previous day had also tested positive. The husband was tested in Sunshine Coast University hospital overnight.

The pair travelled from Melbourne on the first of June, arriving in Queensland on the fifth of June, and then travelled up through NSW and crossed the border at Goondiwindi.

Authorities have urged people, especially in the Sunshine Coast region, to get vaccinated if they can, with extra doses sent to vaccination hubs in the region by the federal government.

More to come
