Plating Up WA to help support local business - Media Statements

  • Plating Up WA a celebration of seasonal, delicious, local produce and hospitality during the month of June
  • WA diners encouraged to support local dining venues following a challenging year

Western Australians have been urged to get out and support local restaurants and the food service industry during the month of June, as part of the fourth annual Plating Up WA campaign.

The initiative is more important than ever this year as the industry recovers from the impacts of COVID-19, as well as fires in the Perth Hills, floods in Carnarvon and cyclone damage in the Mid-West and Wheatbelt.

Fifty dining pubs, cafés, wineries, food trucks and fish and chip outlets from Esperance, the South-West, Perth, the Swan Valley, the Mid-West, the Gascoyne and the Pilbara are participating in the promotion - each of which will feature a Hero Dish championing fresh WA ingredients.

Chefs were invited to include and feature ingredients from Buy West Eat Best members in their Hero Dish to showcase premium Buy West Eat Best produce and encourage members to develop new supply opportunities in the hospitality and food service industries.

Buy West Eat Best, with its distinctive bite mark logo, now has more than 185 members from across the supply chain including producers, processors, industry associations, retailers, chefs and food service businesses.

Comments attributed to Agriculture and Food Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

"Plating Up WA is a terrific initiative that provides an opportunity for Western Australians to discover the produce and experiences being served up by our diverse restaurant and food service industry.

"The industry has had a challenging year and Plating Up WA provides an ideal opportunity for WA to show its support for local businesses while enjoying a meal and good hospitality.

"The Hero Dish concept is a great way to really appreciate locally grown, farmed, fished, processed and prepared produce, knowing it has low food miles and is as fresh as can be.

"We encourage all Western Australians to get out and celebrate the start of winter this June by enjoying a meal and Plating Up WA."
