Local Publishing Co launches Local Surry Hills, its fourth hyper local publication.
Local Publishing Co publisher Elizabeth Meryment has announced the launch of Local Surry Hills, the fourth hyper-local publication in the group’s growing stable.
Local Surry Hills joins Local Paddo, Local Bondi and Local Bayside in the group’s lineup of quarterly magazines.
The magazine will have a print run of 15,000 delivered to homes and via cafes, pubs, hotels, restaurants, libraries, shopping centres and other distribution points across Surry Hills and surrounding neighbourhoods.
“Having worked in Surry Hills for 15 years, I have always loved watching the evolution of this suburb,” Meryment said. “It is such a dynamic place with always so much going on, and such a centre for creativity and enterprise in Sydney.
“We want Local Surry Hills to reflect those dynamic changes and talk to the creative community and people who live in the area, and those who visit daily for work or play, about what’s happening.”
The first cover story in Local Surry Hills covers the rebirth of Surry Hills after Covid-19. The edition also has interviews with chef Lennox Hastie, We Are Kindred’s Lizzie and Georgie Renkert, stories on new restaurants, developments and shows and home and design trends.
Advertisers in the edition include King Living, Arthur G, Beds Australia, Bresic Whitney, Living Edge, Supa Centa, Planet Furniture, Astra Walker, Modify, Riedel, Cambridge Markets and a host of smaller, local advertisers.
“We are genuinely thrilled with the support for this edition and all our hyper-local magazines,” Meryment said. “People absolutely love reading about their local area and appreciate the investment we make in design, photography and journalism.”
The magazine is printed in high-quality 80gsm uncoated stock in A5 shape and was designed by designer Trevor Timms. The magazine was edited by Meryment with associate editor Alistair Jones.
Meryment said the four magazines covering Bondi, Paddington, Double Bay and now Surry Hills gave a comprehensive insight into Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, while highlighting the different lives of people in each area.
“These areas of Sydney are so incredibly different to each other,” she said. “There are very few similarities between, say, Double Bay and Bondi. People live totally differently in each neighbourhood. Surry Hills has a young, cool, edgy vibe with a big influx of people coming and going from the area each day for work, especially as new tech and design companies move into the suburb. It’s an exciting place to explore and will continue to gentrify over the next few years with big developments planned. We want to be there to capture that and tell the amazing stories emerging from the neighbourhood.”
The next Local Surry Hills will be the spring edition out in late August.
Local Publishing Co was established in 2016 and will celebrate five years in business on June 19.
