Australia Israel and Jewish Affairs Council's Ahron Shapiro says local councils embarrass themselves when they get involved in areas outside their purview, like foreign policy. The remarks come after the Yarra City Council in Melbourne's inner-city passed a resolution this week to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people; criticising Israel for its "occupation" in the conflict. "Local councils just shouldn't involve themselves with foreign policy issues and it's kind of embarrassing and also annoying at the same time, but it reflects very poorly on them," he told Sky News host Cory Bernardi.
