Global meat markets, local trends and future forecasts - Mirage News

East Gippsland farmers are invited to hear from commodity market analyst Simon Quilty when he visits Tambo Crossing and Bairnsdale next month.

Simon Quilty is an independent meat and livestock market analyst with 30 years’ experience in the sector. He provides detailed analysis on meat and livestock prices, and the trends influencing key global markets.

The events are being delivered as part of the Local Economic Recovery ‘On-farm Recovery Support Services’ project, which is jointly funded by the Victorian Government and Commonwealth Government under the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Agriculture Recovery Manager Keren Walker said both free events would provide local farmers with an opportunity to hear expert analysis from Mr Quilty on current trends in the global meat market as well as local trends and future forecasts.

“This opportunity to hear expert analysis on global markets will provide the local farming community with the information to assist in rebuilding business resilience.”

Topics to be discussed at the events include:

  • Australian flock and herd numbers – where are we heading in terms of size?
  • Resurgence of African Swine Fever in China
  • Brazil and Argentina’s beef supply tightens
  • Consumer buying trends during COVID have changed permanently: what are beef and lamb new opportunities?
  • Emergence of a commodity super cycle
  • Global demand and supply factors – forecasting global meat prices
  • Australian cattle and lamb price forecasts for 2021–22.
