Local success in Forbes Squash Open - Parkes Champion-Post

This year marked the 12th year of our annual Forbes Squash Open, which drew a record number of 92 entries.

This is the first time we have had to close entries 10 days out from the tournament due to being at maximum capacity even with using the Parkes Squash courts for the entire day on Saturday.

This year's tournament attracted players from places such as; Hong Kong, Dapto, Young, Cowra, Boorowa, ACT, Springwood, Bathurst, Orange, Bankstown, Canterbury, Northmead, Dubbo, Orange, Wyong, Goulburn, Guerri, Wagga, Parkes, Thornleigh and others, and an incredibly high calibre of players as well.

On top of the large number of entries we also had our highest quality of players in both the men's and ladies' Open divisions.

This year's winner of the men's open division was Rohan Toole from Thornleigh, who defeated Michael Bolton from Bankstown in the final. Between these two highly skilled players they have won this tournament a staggering nine times.

The Women's division saw two of the strongest Open women's players we have seen at our tournament with Sze Yu Lee from Northmead taking it out over Jen Condie from Bankstown 3 sets to 0.

Between Forbes and Parkes, we had four local players who finished in the top 10 of the men's open division.

Forbes club president, Darryn Piper was the highest placed local in the top grade with third placing, Lockie Miller (who is currently number 1 in NSW and 8th in Australia for under 19 boys at just 17 years) finished fifth, Jay Kross sixth and Oli Dawes 10th.

Another few honourable mentions go to Parkes Junior Chole Mason who took out the Ladies C division and our youngest player in the tournament, 11 year old Henry Kross from Parkes, who plays in both Forbes and Parkes local competitions.

He is the 2020 under 11's NSW and Australian champion and having just moved up to the under 13's is the number 3 in NSW and 9th in Australia.

He played extremely well and above all of his opponent's expectations to finish as runner up in the Men's B grade division which is an exceptional result.
