It's not an easy task to win your section at the Taree and District Eisteddfod, as entrants come from out of the area to compete, but 11-year-old local girl Alice Godfrey was the best in the 12 Years and Under this year.
Alice was the overall aggregate winner, being awarded for each of her six songs. She won two firsts, two seconds, and was given two highly commendeds.
The adjudicator's comments were glowing: "You captured the mood of this song perfectly", "Lovely storytelling, warm even tone throughout", and, "Lovely inclusion of the whole audience with good use of facial expression."
Alice, who is the school captain at Cundletown Public School, has been invited back to sing in the Grand Concert at the end of the Eisteddfod on June 5, to sing her first place winning song, Quiet from the musical theatre production of Matilda.
This is only Alice's second eisteddfod (given there was no eisteddfod last year due to the pandemic), and she has been having singing lessons for four years from Helen Monkton.
According to Alice's mum, Anna, Alice sings every day.
"She loves to sing and perform. She's like a little Taylor Swift really," Anna says.
"I think she's destined for the stage."
Alice also has guitar lessons from Dean Snook. She used to dance, but gave that up to concentrate on her singing.
