Victoria records no new local coronavirus cases for 21 days in a row - The Age

Germany, France, Italy, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Ireland had paused the Astra-Zeneca rollout while EMA experts examined reports of blood clots in some recently inoculated people.

Leaders of Italy, Germany and France have already declared they will resume the rollout of the jab, while Ireland is expected to make an announcement about the program on Friday. Sweden has delayed its decision about the vaccine until next week.

In declaring the vaccine safe on Friday, the EMA conceded it could not rule out a link between the vaccine and 25 combined cases of two very rare blood disorders and vowed to keep investigating.

The EMA found the number of thromboembolic events reported during trials and the broader rollout was 469 – lower than what would normally be expected in the general population.

Representatives from biotech firm CSL told senators at a COVID-19 committee hearing at the start of March the company was close to hitting its target of making 1 million doses of Astra-Zeneca’s vaccine per week. The first locally-made doses of the product are due to be in use by the end of March.

There have now been more than 42,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered within Victoria since February 22. GPs will begin their rollout of the inoculation from Monday.
