Tasmania has classified five local government areas in Queensland as high risk, effective immediately.
Key points:
- Tasmania has declared the south-east Queensland local government areas of Brisbane, Logan, Moreton Bay, Ipswich and the Redlands as high-risk
- Anyone arriving in the state from those regions will have to do up to 14 days' quarantine if they wish to stay
- Queensland has announced a snap three-day lockdown
It comes after the Queensland government announced greater Brisbane would go into lock down from 5:00pm on Monday.
Until now, Tasmania has managed Queensland on a hotspot basis, with 27 areas classified as high risk.
Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein said anyone travelling to the state from Brisbane, Logan, Moreton Bay, Ipswich or the Redlands would not be permitted to enter the state without quarantining for up to two weeks.
"If you do arrive in Tasmania you will be placed into hotel quarantine for a period of up to two weeks," he said.
"This will remain in place for the next three days and we will obviously take public health advice in terms of when that can be lifted."
The state's public health authorities are expected to provide a further update on Monday afternoon.
Ten new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in greater Brisbane, four of which are community transmission.
Two of the cases have an unknown origin.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said six of the cases were overseas acquired and four were local — two of those were linked to the 26-year-old landscaper from Stafford who tested positive to the highly infectious UK strain on Thursday night.
Ms Palaszczuk said the state now had a "huge job now that we have to do" because of the community transmission.
"I know this will mean some disruption to people's lives but we've done this before and we've got through it over those three days in the past and if everyone does the right thing, I'm sure that we will be able to get through it again," she said.
